During the 2011-2012 Sunday School year, the Bible Teaching
for Kids curriculum
provided a year-long survey of the entire Bible. We provide this outline
as an aid to those
wishing to lead a similar survey.

The First Missionaries
This month completes our survey of the Bible with the story of the
spreading of the Good News about Jesus through Asia and Europe, mainly
through the missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul and his fellows, ending
with Paul's journey to Rome. Our emphasis will be on trusting God and
on missions and evangelism.
Continuing our survey of the Bible, we turn to the single book of
history in the New Testament with the history of the early church. We
will learn about the first church in Jerusalem, the persecution of the first
Christians, the conversion of Saul, the first gentile Christians, and God's
miraculous care for the early Christians.
Jesus' Miracles and Parables
Continuing our study of Jesus' ministry, we will learn about two
of His miracles and some of His parables. We will learn that we can
trust God for help to provide for our needs, that God is concerned and cares
for us, and that we can choose to believe and obey God's Word.
Jesus' Early Ministry
We've already studied Jesus' birth (at Christmas) and His death and
resurrection (at Easter). Now we pick up our survey of the Bible with
Jesus' early life and ministry and continue through the New Testament.
This month we will learn about the one glimpse we get from scripture of Jesus
as a boy, then His baptism, His temptation, and His calling His first
Jesus the Savior
In celebration of the Easter season, we skip ahead in our Bible
survey to Holy Week, beginning with Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, His
crucifixion and resurrection, His appearance to two disciples on the Emmaus
Road, His encounter with Thomas, and His ascension into heaven.
This month completes our overview of the Old Testament with a study
of four of the prophets who brought God's message to His people. We will
focus on what we can learn about God from the prophets--that one true God is
active in our lives today, and that our actions and attitudes can be pleasing
A Prophet and Kings
Continuing our Bible survey through the books of 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 Kings,
we will learn about the power of prayer from the story of Samuel's birth.
Then we will learn from Saul, David, and Solomon, the first three kings of
Israel, how God helps us to follow His plan for our lives through giving us
our abilities and talents and wisdom to make the right choices.
Joshua and the Judges
We return to the Old Testament in our Bible survey as we look at the books of
Joshua (crossing the Jordan River and conquest of Jericho) and Judges (Deborah
and Barak, Gideon, and Samson). These people and events help us know the
importance of obeying God and trusting in His plans.
Starting with the
prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus, we will learn about the angels who
announced His birth to Mary and Joseph, and the shepherds who were the first
to receive the good news.
In November we move into the book of Exodus, as we study about God's calling
of Moses through the burning bush, the Passover experience, the crossing of
the Red Sea, and the giving of the Ten Commandments. Our emphasis will
be trusting and honoring God in our lives, and obeying God's rules.
We continue our Bible survey with a study of the Patriarchs, the fathers of
faith whom God used to build a people, a nation, and eventually leading to
Jesus Christ. Our study of Abraham, Isaac,
Jacob, and Joseph will help us learn to trust God and
treat others with fairness and kindness.
This is the beginning of a new Sunday School year and a new class
of boys and girls. And it's the beginning of a new year of studying
through the Bible, starting with Genesis and going through the New Testament.
We begin this month with the book of Genesis as we learn about God's Creation,
Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, and Noah. Our emphasis will be on
worshiping God and obeying Him.
