With the proliferation of homeschoolers, our church is now often
facing a situation where a child is at a different grade level than his
age.
For example, a homeschooled child may read at grade 2, perform
math at grade 3, and be 7 years old. Would this child be in a
2nd or 3rd grade class? Parents will often push for their kids to
be in the highest level.
As head of the SS programs,
I am trying to address how to best decide which class to put
the homeschooled children in. Since our SS classes are based on
grades, it's straightforward for the public school children. No so
for the homeschoolers, who academically (i.e., grade level) may be
advanced, but socially may not be.
Does anyone have any advice or experience with this issue?
I'd love to hear any feedback.
